Pregnancy yoga

Pregnancy is a time of great change, both emotional and physical. It is also a time when it is important to stay fit and healthy. Yoga offers a safe environment where women can address these changes through centering, pranayama, relaxation and asana.

Pregnancy is also a time when many conflicting and confusing emotions surface and centering techniques serve to take the woman's mind away from everyday issues in order to connect with their growing babies and feelings.

Breath work or pranayama, teaches women how to accommodate their growing bellies and, more importantly, how to use fully the power of their breath and birthing muscles during labour, in order to increases body awareness and trust in their natural ability to give birth.

Physical effort: Yoga postures

Asana, or postures, will at times be very gentle and, at times, quite strenuous. Postures will strengthen and stretch the woman's body, improve circulation and teach her how to combine breath and movement to promote better posture and spine health.

A strong and flexible body will take the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth with more ease. Furthermore, a strong and flexible body will recover more quickly. Classes will also offer simple exercises to alleviate common pregnancy discomforts.

Each class will address the physical changes, especially the growing belly, enabling the women to observe and enjoy the effect of body changes on the way they move, breathe and feel.
