Dynamic yoga

Dynamic yoga is an accessible and comprehensive learning method which encompasses the keys to yoga posture, pranayama and meditation practice.

This method will enable you to practice yoga safely, effectively and progressively. You will be taught how to sensitise, awaken and open your body in the most direct, effective manner possible. This process is based on a clear and developed understanding of the fruitful relationship between movement and stillness, part and whole, body, mind and spirit.

Integrity in action

The Dynamic yoga method is based on integrity in action. This requires i.e. sensitivity, honesty and openness. Flexibility, stamina and endurance are beautiful 'side effects' that will occur after some time.

The proces of learning the practice of yoga postures according to this method involves the principles formation, transformation, action, motion, perception, cognition and consciousness. Once these principles are understood they can be applied at any yoga posture practice, no matter what style you prefer.

The power of the Dynamic yoga method derives from the combination of an internal as well as an external dynamic with all their elements to be applied. The elements are, among others, vinyasa, alignment, bandhas, breath and awareness.

"Yoga is about making balance. Balancing the various parts of the anatomical body. Balancing the various parts of the physiological body. Balancing the various aspects of the nervous system. Balancing the various qualities of the mind. Balancing all the different aspects of our being. Yoga is also about being able to make balance in life. Balancing the various aspects of our life: work, play, study. Balancing our practice with the rest of our lives." Godfrey Devereux

The practical experience

The practice of Dynamic yoga can be a delightful experience. You’ll continuously be encouraged to listen to the sensations inside your body and the rhythm of your breath. You’ll become sensitive, open and responsive to the sensations in a generous and gentle way. Your mind will first teach your body, and, once you are able to respond by listening to your body's responses, the body will guide the mind into stillness. That is actually when yoga begins...

Dynamic yoga is based on a method with a certain efficiency: through practical, clear instruction you are guided to discover and learn about the body’s  intelligence, capacities and limitations. You’ll be taught the art of breath-body synchronization, using repetitive movements to become  first familiar and later intimate with the rhythm of the breath.

As we move to the breath, we synchronize our movements exactly with each inhalation and each exhalation. You’ll be introduced to accessible techniques within the Dynamic yoga method in order to awaken all bandhas in the body and apply them during practice. The bandhas generate a subtle heat in the body that increases blood flow, eliminates toxins and releases stress from the body.

Through time and with understanding, you’ll become familiar with the seven universal actions of yoga posture practice. You’ll learn them separately, and then, as a result of a regular practice, they’ll start to interweave with each other.  Moving will feel easier. Effort will bring fruitful results. You’ll start to feel the impact that yoga can have on your emotions. And finally your mind is engaging in a slowing down process.

Once your mind and body understand the method with its specific components  you’ll start accessing the subtleties of the yoga method. Your understanding will be based on how it feels, not caring about the obvious – the superficial and visual. Yoga posture practice can be nourishing to body and mind. The practice, led by sensitivity and intimacy with sensations, is a tool to allow the outer body to draw energy from within and the inner body to draw energy from without. Flow and transformation are the two thriving forces within this process.

Inviting the mind to become quiet is a stepping stone to a meditative mind.  In Dynamic yoga we practice meditation in action. No need to listen to external voices. There’s only delight in enjoying breath, movement, softness, intimacy and the art of allowing our inner nature to fully express itself.
